We talked ad nauseam about serious winter training and such. I don’t think that I’m going to be able to train hard on bike this winter. Unlike Chicago, where there is a relatively mild winter with a clear Lake Shore Path, the snow and salt in Madison are a bit prohibitive to speed (one can get miles, but the pace really is much slower) and seriously prohibitive to steel frames (oh how I’d love a carbon winter bike
). I’ll still have a base commute milage of 65 Miles/Week on a MTB (basically running 48-16 as the drivetrain seizes as soon as the slush gets nasty). I assume that I’ll do 25 mile snow rides once a week. But I need to start thinking seriously about Cross Training. Once a week racquetball is a lock. I think that when the snow hits that I’ll be putting in a fair amount of CX skiing (but classic not skate). I’m thinking about taking up laps at the pool (to this end I did buy goggles and a pink/purple cap). I need thoughts about this. Please, what will the four of us do to make sure that the instant that roads have lost their salt rime, we can effortlessly crank out a mid tempo 100K. I hate the idea of building base milage all spring. I’d like to be in 600K form by late April.
Hmmmm…
I guess the 800lbs gorilla in the room is, “why not rollers?” That feels like contracting my word not expanding it. A. what are your thoughts? I know that you’re considering training hard next year. I’m pretty curious about knocking out a sprint tri next year, but running will have to be undertrained or I’ll have no knees to even start. But, I’ve done a 5K at a decent clip with no prep, surely I can do a 10 and pay for it after.
The NYT is reporting that Mike Mussina was seem wearing this T. Kinda cute. Crosswords, Stanford, Control Pitcher, Muppet Fan, Moose is looking kinda adorable.
I know y’all have been wondering what to get me for Christmas. I’ll take a set of hammerhead shark bars/stem done by this dude. kthxbai.

666 NES games in your browser–and very quick emulation too. This is one of those links I kinda wish I hadn’t found.
Fantastic on point summation in this article from ESPN on why Seattle, Texas and NY all let the most talented current baseball player go without a fight. We should know his regular season line and his post season line too:Regular #’s
Post season
So a batting average of 306 (single season high of 358) magically becomes 279 (note most production raising that average is from when he was on the Mariners. SLG goes 578 (season high 645) to 483. OBP .422 to 361. A team gets a lot from him in the regular season, but not enough to keep him apparently. 11/15/07 Ed note…so I know this blog post means little to nothing to others, but…it seems that lil Alex might have found that the market and the world hatred toward him were a bit too flaccid and vitriolic respectively …so he seems to be eating a bit of crow.
