Bike buying

Filed under: VeloFietsen — quietglow @ 1:00 pm

Thinking really seriously of pulling the trigger on this sucker this evening:

http://chicago.craigslist.org/wcl/bik/675714607.html

Looks to be one of the Chicago built bikes made with the cool electro-forging process — see Sheldon’s page. I was going to post a brochure pic of it fully loaded with bags but can’t locate it again.

Suggestions welcome, and we’ll post pics if we get it. This would be A’s ride, of course.

  2. Shame it has mavics on it not the schwinn super stock rims…but no bother…rebulding rims is part of the joy of touring, no?

I am dying to learn how to build wheels

  3. Yeah Maserati is sportin a 32″ standover and I’m solid on that. Well not so solid, but I can stand. And we have about the same standover give or take a bit. Yeah yeah, I know.

Yeah the original Schwinn wheels sounded super nice–bummer on the Mavics. Not that I have anything against Mavics.

I am right there with you on wheel building btw. Was talking to a dude the other day who was rolling on his first set built. Totally envious.

  4. Did here from a guy I really trust Guitar/Bike mechanic friend…he really didn’t like the quality of Mavics he was building and uses only DT Swiss now for touring rims FYI…said there were loose eyelets on the Mavic 520s

  6. Got it. Will post pics tomorrow.

Scads of interesting stuff. The Mavic rims turn out to be Module E’s–check em out. Bombproof old skool touring wheels. And 27″ just to keep things interesting.

Everything is really immaculate and well kept. I’m jealous!
